Southeast Senior DeMarcus Brooks won two titles at the AA Boys State Championship Meet in Charleston.  He won the 100m dash for the 3rd year in a row and a first ever state title in the 200m dash.  Congratulations DeMarcus Brooks!!

Name:  Alexandra (Alex) Harden

School:  Southeast

Alexandra (Alex) Harden won the Long Jump at the Girls AA State Track Meet.  Harden also competed in the 200 meter dash and was also special mention All-Conference Girls Basketball last season.  Congratulations Alex!!

Name:  Jared Klay
School:  Springfield High School
Sport:  Baseball

This Senior Pitcher/Shortstop pitched a complete game in the Senators 6 - 5 win over Sacred Heart Griffin in the City Series, Jared Klay then had five hits the next night in the Championship Game to lead the Senators to the City Series Title 13 - 6.

Sarah Maxon is a freshman high jumper at Springfield High and won the event at the Girls City Meet and at the CS-8 Conference meet as well.  Her strong performance helped SHS win the CS-8 meet for the first time ever.

Name:  Trevor McGrath

School:  Chatham Glenwood
 

Glenwood Senior left handed hurler Trevor McGrath was the winning pitcher in last week's key conferenc game win versus Springfield High.  He also helped out at the plate against East Peoria in a Titan sweep of a double header there.  Glenwood has to 10-0 start no thanks to rainouts.

School:  Chatham Glenwood
 

Caitlin Moody is a Senior Goalie for the Lady Titans.  She helps lead the Girls Soccer Team through the season.  She also was the leading scorer for the Lady Titan's Basketball Team.  One sport keeps the other team from scoring another she scores the most.  An all around player. 

Name:  Wernether Banks
Sport:  Track
School:  Lanphier

Wernether Banks isn't a fan of the 400 meter race but he set a personal best and an individual meet record.  Lanphier went on to win the meet with 145 points.  Banks says he like the shorter distances better but will run the 400 for the team.

School: Sacred Heart Griffin
Sport:  Softball

SHG Sophomore catch Ashleigh Roscetti has helped spark the Lady Blazers to the 8 - 0 start this season with some boosts in helping with two conference wins over Chatham and Pleasant Plains.

Jacob won the 55-meter dash and was on the meet-record-setting 4-by-200 meter relay team at Saturday's(Sat 3/29) Illinois Prep Top Times indoor track meet in Bloomington.  He was also part of Lanphier's state title winning 4x100 relay team and 3rd place 4x200 relay team at last year's state track meet...and he finished 3rd in the 100 meter dash at state last spring.  Jacob also played football.

George Weed is a senior and is already a three-time state finals qualifier in the shot put. He finished 10th at the state meet last May. He won the shot put at last week's Charleston Invite.

We salute the 2008 Nokomis Boys Basketball team for their runner-up performance last weekend in Peoria at the State Basketball Championships in Class 1A.  Coach Steve Kimbro and his squad took home the school's first ever trophy with a semi-final win over Warrensburg-Latham before a six point loss to St. Anne in the Championship game.  Congratulations!!

He scored 22 points and had nine rebounds in the Lions' 63-49 win over Springfield High in last week's regional championship. The 6'8 senior made a number of key plays in the 4th quarter to help Lanphier survive a Springfield rally.

Jacob won his Sectional Wrestling meet in Granite City by beating Granite's Gary Waliser in overtime.  Constant moved to 32-4.

David Devine won the IHSA Class A state wrestling title in the 285-pound weight class in Champaign Saturday night.  SJ-R story below.  Devine is a  junior and is also a lineman on the Porta football team that set a school record for wins last fall.

 Lawrence Thomas scored 18 points in a come-from-behind win in a key conference game against Chatham Glenwood on Friday plus he had 29 points in a road win at Decatur MacArthur on Saturday.

The Williamsville Bullets, champions of the Sangamon County Boys Basketball Tournament. The Bullets defeated Auburn, Rochester and Pleasant Plains last week to claim the school's first county tourney championship since 1991.

Kyle Krager of the Glenwood Titans boys basketball team had a good weekend.  He scored 22 points and had a dozen rebounds in a 67-63 win over Lanphier in a CS-8 showdown Friday night, and followed up with 21 points and 18 rebounds in a 66-54 win over Decatur MacArthur on Saturday.
