Sam Madonia


A longtime Springfield native and a member of the Illinois High School Basketball Hall of Fame, Sam spent 30 years as a teacher at Lincoln High School while at the same time providing play-by-play for Lincoln Football and Basketball.
He first came to Sports Radio 1450 in 1991 as the play-by-play voice of SHG Football and continues that currently.  He has also done play-by-play for high school basketball during his years at Sports Radio 1450.
Sam is the lead host of AM Springfield weekday mornings from 6-9am on Sports Radio 1450.  Recently he was named the SJ-R Reader's Choice Award winner for "Springfield's Most Popular Radio Personality". 
Sam is a graduate of Griffin High School and Illinois State University.  He is married to Alice and they have two daughters: Stacey and Anne.

Paul Pachlhofer


Paul was born in Springfield...Missouri.  He's a veteran of of radio having been on the air since 1991 in various capacities.  He joined AM Springfield in March of 1997 and chimes in with Jeff Hofmann and Sam Madonia every weekday morning.
Paul also handles halftime and postgame shows for the Central State Eight football games.
He's the father of three daughters: Gina (deceased), Sara, and Denise and is married to Kelli who has a daughter, Brieann, and son, Brenton.

John Levin


John Levin has worked in local radio since 1984 and joined Sports Radio 1450 in 1997.  He co-hosts the Press Box with Larry Tate on Tuesdays and with Steve Bridge on Wednesdays.
John is also part of the panel, along with Tim Schweizer on Pease's Candy Sports Talk every Saturday morning.  In addition he handles play-by-play or color commentary duties on Sports Radio 1450 high school football, basketball, and baseball broadcasts.
John works full time for the State Board of  Elections.  He and his wife, Kathy, live in Sherman  with their son, Ben, and daughters, Leah and Hannah.

Jim Ruppert


Jim Ruppert has been with the State Journal-Register since the mid 70's and Sports Radio since 1991.  He hosts the Friday Press Box and the Sportswriters on the Radio Saturday mornings.
Jim also provides color analysis on High School Football and Basketball broadcasts.  He's a graduate of Lemont High School and Bradley University.

Tim Schweizer


Tim Schweizer is one of the most respected voices in Illinois and a member of the Illinois High School Hall of Fame.  Tim partners with Sam Madonia on all SHG High School Football broadcasts and with John Levin and Jim Ruppert on High School Basketball and Baseball coverage.
Tim is also the host of Pease's Candy  Sports Talk every Saturday morning on Sports Radio 1450.  He's a busy guy also working full time for the Department of Natural Resources. 
Tim is a 1976 graduate of  Springfield High School.

Don Trello


Don Trello has been a part of the State Journal-Register Sports Department for 20 years and has had the opportunity to interview several professional athletes in the course of his job including Hall of Famers Robin Roberts, Ozzie Smith, Lou Brock, and Bob Gibson.
He is a graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin high school and Sangamon State University. 
He's been involved in sports in many ways including official scorer for the Class AAA Springfield Redbirds and the Class A Springfield Cardinals for more than 15 seasons and PA announcer for high school football at Memorial Stadium, high school baseball, basketball, and the NCAA College Division World Series. 
Don has two daughters, Amanda and Emily.

Larry Tate


Larry Tate was born in Springfield and is a graduate of Southeast High School (1979).  He attended DePaul University (Chicago).  He has worked on a part-time basis for the State Journal-Register sports department since September of 1986. 
He was active in youth baseball organizations, including a two-year term as President of Clark Griffith Little League.  Larry's "real job" is serving as Billing Compliance Manager for Springfield Clinic where he has been since 1999.  He spcializes in Medicare regulation and has given presentations on this subject at various industry conferences.
Larry and Keri, his wife of 30 years, have two grown children, Brittany and Ryne.  In his spare time, Larry is a dedicated reader of history with an emphasis on the Civil War Era.

Steve Bridge


Steve Bridge started as the Agri-Business Director for Neuhoff Communications in January of 2009.  He has an extensive background in broadcasting but is just starting out covering the ag bbeat. 
Steve began his broadcasting career in college at WKAI-FM in Macomb.  After graduatin from Western Illinois he headed to Rockford and was the weekend sports anchor for WREX-NBC.  In 2001, Steve moved to Springfield and started working for WICS.  He started working as the weekend sports anchor and then took over as Sports Director in 2004.
He is also co-host of two days of the Press Box on Sports Radio 1450.  He co-hosts Wednesday and Thursday nights.
Steve lives near Rochester with his wife Dina, who also works in radio, and their two songs Xander and Asher.  Much of his spare time is taken up with chasing two little boys.  Any spare time he has is taken up with home improvement projects, yard work, and tuning in to the Cubs on Sports Radio 1450.
